Overview

Shock mount bracket machining to drawing

A shock mount bracket connects the damper to the body, subframe, knuckle or suspension arm and carries its dynamic loads into the structure. It is part of our chassis and suspension components.

We machine shock mount brackets for OEM and Tier programs, specialty vehicles and motorsport engineering teams, from validation parts to low-volume and repeat batches, with material traceability and inspection reports on request. For other chassis loads, see our chassis mounting brackets.

Shock mount bracket types we manufacture

  • 01
    Upper shock mounts
  • 02
    Lower shock mounts
  • 03
    Clevis-type brackets
  • 04
    Bushing-sleeve brackets
  • 05
    Specialty coilover mounts
  • Upper shock mounts

Tower or body-side brackets that take the top of the damper, strut or coilover into the body-in-white attachment. Geometry and datums come from your drawing.

    Suspension brackets
  • Lower shock mounts

Axle, knuckle or control-arm side brackets, where the damper eye or stud meets the unsprung structure. Quoting them with the suspension control arms and knuckles keeps one datum logic.

    Steering knuckles
  • Clevis-type brackets

Two lugs with a through bore for a pin or bolt through the damper eye. The lug bores are checked with a bore gauge and on CMM against the drawing datums.

  • Bushing-sleeve brackets

A machined sleeve or bore that takes a pressed rubber or polyurethane bushing. Bore diameter and position set the press fit and the damper alignment.

  • Specialty coilover mounts

Adjustable or one-off coilover mounts for specialty vehicles and motorsport engineering teams, ordered against drawings as engineering samples or low-volume batches.

Critical features of a shock mount bracket

  • 01

    Bushing and pivot bore position

Bore diameter and position set the bushing press fit and the damper alignment. We check them with a bore gauge and on CMM against the drawing datums.

  • 02

    Bolt-face flatness and parallelism

Flat, parallel bolt faces give an even clamp load on the body or arm. Bores and bolt faces are machined in as few setups as possible, then measured on CMM.

  • 03

    Hole true position to datums

Hole positions set the fit to the vehicle structure, per ASME Y14.5 / ISO 1101. We measure true position on CMM against the drawing datums.

  • 04

    Edge break in high-stress zones

Edge breaks and finish remove the stress concentrations that start fatigue cracks. Edge radii follow the drawing and are checked visually, by roughness check and radius gauge.

  • 05

    Thread quality

Thread quality sets the fastener clamp load and allows fastener reuse. Threads are checked with go / no-go gauges against the drawing callout.

Materials

Shock mount bracket materials and blanks

  • SAE 1045 and 4140 steel

Bar stock or forging for high loads and compact sections, cost-effective at every stage. Zinc plating and electroless nickel, or black oxide for dry, oiled areas.

    Steel grade guide
  • HSLA steel

Plate or forging for lighter steel sections where the drawing calls for higher yield strength. Zinc plated, electroless nickel or black oxide per the drawing.

  • Aluminum 6061-T6, 6082-T6

Billet or forging for mass reduction on body-side and specialty brackets, with hard anodizing for aluminum brackets or black anodizing.

  • Aluminum 7075-T6

Billet or forging for the highest strength-to-weight ratio, on motorsport and specialty programs. Hard or black anodized per the drawing.

FAQs

Shock mount bracket FAQ

Upload drawings
What is a shock bracket?
It is the bracket that attaches a shock absorber or damper to the vehicle's body, frame, axle or suspension arm and transfers the damper's loads into the structure.
What is the purpose of a shock mount?
A shock mount locates the damper precisely and carries its dynamic forces; with its bushing, it also isolates vibration from the body.
Steel or aluminum shock mount brackets?
Steel is cost-effective and strong for high loads; aluminum saves unsprung or body mass. We machine the material specified on your drawing.
What documentation do you supply for chassis brackets?
On request, we supply the documents your program needs: FAI and inspection reports, CMM reports and material certificates (MTRs) with batch traceability. Parts are made under an ISO 9001-certified quality system. PPAP-style documentation on request (to validate by DEK).
Can you make low-volume brackets for specialty or motorsport programs?
Yes: engineering samples, validation lots and low-volume batches to drawing are part of our range, for specialty vehicle and motorsport engineering teams as well as OEM programs. The minimum order is set per part.
